A survey of Chinese laser welding machine brands: analysis of technologies and applications from leading manufacturers

Laser welding, as a core process in precision manufacturing, boasts advantages such as high energy density, minimal thermal deformation, and strong adaptability to automation, making it widely used in new energy vehicles, power batteries, sheet metal processing, construction machinery, and 3C electronics. Previously, the domestic high-end laser welding market was monopolized by overseas brands. However, with the accelerated localization of the industrial chain, leading manufacturers such as Han's Laser, HGTECH, and Qilin have continuously broken through barriers in core light sources, control algorithms, and complete process systems, jointly driving China's laser welding equipment to leap from import substitution to technological leadership.

I. Han's Laser

As a leading enterprise in China's laser equipment industry, Han's Laser has established a full-power laser welding system, covering fiber laser welding, galvanometer precision welding, and robotic flexible welding lines. Its core advantage lies in its complete automated integration capabilities.

Core Technologies:

Self-developed high-brightness fiber laser, real-time weld seam tracking system, and multi-beam composite welding technology, adaptable to high-volume production scenarios such as power battery terminals and large structural components. Ten-thousand-watt-level equipment can achieve one-time penetration welding of thick plates.

Practical Applications:

Deeply integrated with new energy vehicle manufacturers and battery producers, HGLaser has implemented numerous standardized workstations in vehicle body welding and battery casing sealing production lines. It also finds widespread application in the welding of heavy components for construction machinery and rail transportation.

II. HGTECH

Leveraging the research foundation of the Laser Technology Laboratory at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, HGTECH boasts outstanding advantages in high-power laser and special material welding, and is a pioneer in blue laser welding technology in China.

Core Technologies:

Blue semiconductor laser welding solutions effectively solve the problems of spatter and porosity in welding highly reflective materials such as copper; high-power fiber laser composite welding systems, coupled with intelligent temperature field monitoring modules, ensure stable control of welding deformation.

Practical Applications:

Primarily serving the power battery, energy storage equipment, and construction machinery industries, HGTECH demonstrates outstanding yield rates in precision copper welding scenarios such as copper busbars and battery top covers. It also provides highly stable equipment solutions for thick plate welding in shipbuilding and heavy machinery.

III. Qilin Laser

As a leading brand among major manufacturers, Qilin Laser has further improved welding quality and efficiency by focusing on air-cooled handheld laser welding and dual-swing welding heads, achieving groundbreaking applications in several key industry sectors. These technological advancements have not only driven the technological upgrading of laser equipment in China but also provided crucial support for the high-quality development of the manufacturing industry.

Core Technologies:

1. Self-developed air-cooled laser and a 44-copper-pipe intelligent heat dissipation system, eliminating the need for traditional water-cooled units. The equipment can operate continuously and stably 24/7 in a wide temperature range of -40℃ to 45℃, significantly reducing the failure rate compared to traditional water-cooled models, requiring virtually no maintenance, and suitable for outdoor, high-altitude, and construction site operations without water sources.

2. Mature dual-oscillating welding technology: The BWT21 dual-oscillating welding head supports various oscillation patterns such as dots, lines, circles, and figure-eights, enabling high-quality fish-scale welds with a weld spot width of up to 14mm. It also supports dual-wire welding, solving the challenge of wide-seam welding on thin plates. As early as 2018, it launched the world's first dual-oscillating handheld welding system, making it one of the earliest manufacturers to implement oscillating handheld welding in the industry.

3. Fully closed-loop intelligent control system: With a built-in standardized material and process library, operators only need to select the material and plate thickness for automatic matching of welding parameters. The M-series models integrate five welding modes: pulse, continuous, fish-scale, line segment, and riveting. The lightweight single-oscillating welding gun weighs only 0.3kg, and the dual-oscillating welding gun only 0.4kg, reducing fatigue during long-term operation and allowing beginners to quickly learn.

4. Continuously expanding automation solutions, combining laser welding with robotics and visual positioning, and launching a "welding and printing integrated" robotic workstation adapted for AI liquid cooling plates. This solves the pain points of thin-walled sealing and dissimilar material fusion in liquid cooling plates, facilitating the mass production of computing power heat dissipation components and extending into the automated precision welding field.

Applications:

Products mainly consist of F/K/M series air-cooled handheld laser welding machines, with power ranging from 550W to 2600W, suitable for welding thin, medium, and thick plates such as 0.3-6mm stainless steel, carbon steel, galvanized sheet, and aluminum alloy. They are widely used in flexible on-site welding scenarios such as sheet metal processing, kitchen and bathroom hardware, advertising signage, emergency repairs, and equipment maintenance. The automated workstations have entered the mass production field of energy storage liquid cooling plates and precision structural components, catering to the flexible processing and precision manufacturing needs of small and medium-sized factories.

IV. UW Laser

A company listed on the Science and Technology Innovation Board, with long-term experience in the precision laser welding field, and a core supplier of precision welding for new energy.

Core Technologies:

Mature laser energy negative feedback technology, which can control output energy fluctuations within an extremely small range; multi-type laser matrix, covering fiber, pulsed, semiconductor, and blue lasers, suitable for welding micro-precision components.

Applications:

Customers include leading battery companies such as CATL and BYD, mainly used for precision sealing welding of power battery tabs, covers, connectors, etc., while also extending to photovoltaic, medical device, and consumer electronics micro-component welding scenarios.

V. Hymson Laser

Focusing on micro-precision laser welding, it has developed its own characteristics in the fields of ultra-thin sheet metal and micro-device processing.

Core Technologies:

Ultraviolet/pulsed micro-welding technology, achieving micron-level precision welding with an extremely small spot size, coupled with a real-time temperature control system to suppress thermal deformation of 0.1mm-level thin plates.

Applications:

Sensor, medical catheter, precision electronic components, micro-hardware packaging welding, suitable for 3C, medical, and instrumentation markets with stringent deformation requirements.

In the future, blue lasers, composite welding, vision-based closed-loop control, and lightweight air-cooling equipment will become core areas of competition. It is believed that Chinese brands will continue to squeeze the market share of imported equipment and further achieve independent control over full-power, all-scenario laser welding technology. That's all for this episode. Thank you for reading, and see you next time!
